What Leak Sensors Can and Cannot Do
Honest limits of point sensors and monitored alarms.
A leak sensor is a point detector. It knows what touches it - water at that spot - and nothing more. It will not find the source, see inside a wall, or predict a joint failure.
That makes sensors excellent for unattended risk: under sinks, at water heaters, beside equipment, in low points where leaks collect. They buy time. They do not replace investigation when water is appearing.
The right mental model is a smoke alarm: valuable, limited, only as good as its placement and its battery. Plan coverage, test it, and do not ask it to do a plumber's job.
